When I stepped foot onto the property at The Dunlin, an Auberge Resort, on Kiawah Island, I felt an instant sense of home. The warmth, the hospitality, and the thoughtful design details made this place feel more like a sophisticated Southern-style home than a hotel. It was the perfect blend of authentic Southern charm and elevated luxury—an aesthetic I adore and often draw inspiration from when designing events. Every nook and cranny felt intentional, and the entire experience was as soothing as it was beautiful.
A Warm Welcome in November
I visited during the first week of November, expecting crisp fall air, but the weather surprised me with its warmth. It was so inviting that I couldn’t resist taking a dip in the pool, which felt like a true indulgence so late in the year. Everything about the space encouraged relaxation—the kind of peaceful ease that lets you exhale deeply and soak in the surroundings. The pool area was impeccably designed, like a magnet for serenity, and every detail added to the resort’s charm.
Spectacular Dining & Southern Comfort
Southern food has a way of feeding the soul, and The Dunlin delivered. Breakfast was a standout for me—creamy grits, perfectly crispy bacon, and all the Southern goodness you could ask for. The food was spectacular across the board, and the drinks were equally impressive. Every meal was elevated yet comforting, showcasing the resort’s dedication to Southern authenticity and flavor.
Immersed in Nature
One of the most magical parts of my stay was the kayaking adventure in the estuary. Guided by the resort’s coastal expedition team, we explored the lush marshlands, learning about the wildlife, clams, oysters, and the diverse array of birds that call this area home. It was as educational as it was serene. The Dunlin takes its natural surroundings seriously, and you can feel it in every aspect of the property—from the well-maintained paths perfect for biking and walking to the thoughtfully provided pamphlets identifying local botanical treasures.
I especially loved their birdwatching initiative, which provided binoculars at stops along the paths. Birds are deeply rooted in the resort’s ethos—so much so that The Dunlin itself is named after a bird. This connection was subtly and tastefully integrated into the décor, with representations of birds throughout the design.
A Delightful Southern Escape
The Dunlin is only 50 minutes from Charleston, South Carolina, making it both accessible and secluded. The staff went above and beyond to make my stay special, and their attention to detail and warm hospitality truly stood out.
If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind Southern experience that combines authenticity with elevated luxury, The Dunlin should be at the top of your list. It’s not just a resort—it’s a home, a retreat, and a destination that will leave you feeling refreshed and inspired. Consider this a Stamped by Fallon Carter recommendation—The Dunlin is an experience you don’t want to miss.
I know I’ll be back.
